![twyford surgery nhs app. Why is your GP asking you to request your medication via the NHS App/Patient access? Requesting your medication via the NHS app helps by: getting your request directly to your GP, aiding timely issuing of medication. Reducing workload for surgery staff, freeing up capacity for other critical duties. Reducing wastage and increasing safety.
From 1st September 2023, your GP is asking for all medication requests to be via the NHS App or Patient Access. Guides are available on this webpage (see below) to help you get set up, failing which patients can email hiowicb-hsi.signuptwyford@nhs.net for help.
In rare instances where patients do not have a computer, smartphone or tablet and this are unable to request this way, we will discuss ways to assist you after your next request following the 1st September.](https://twyford-surgery.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/NHS-App-Poster-002-724x1024.png)
Frequently asked questions – Using NHS App or Patient Access to request your repeat prescriptions
From the 1st September, the surgery will only be accepting repeat requests via the NHS App or Patient Access, from patients that are able to do so. For patients without a smartphone, computer or tablet, separate arrangements can be made
Requesting repeat medications via the NHS App or Patient Access helps get your request to the GP faster, reduces administrative workload in the surgery, and has been shown in other surgeries to reduce wastage and increase medicines safety.
For patients that have a smartphone, the NHS App is preferable as it has more functions than Patient Access and is continually developing over time. For patients who do not have a smartphone, but do have a computer, Patient Access can still be used to request medication.
There are step by step guides available for how to get set up on our website, and at Getting started with the NHS App – NHS App help and support – NHS (www.nhs.uk)
NHS login can now be used for patient access, guides for which can be found at How to set up NHS login
Alternatively, you can create an account directly with Patient Access at Log in to Patient Access and follow the instructions.

My child is under the age of 13
Patients under the age of 13 cannot use the NHS app, however parents/guardians can request to have their account linked to their child, which is known as proxy access. Please email hiowicb-hsi.signuptwyford@nhs.net to request proxy access, and see Using linked profiles to access services for someone else – NHS App help and support – NHS (www.nhs.uk) for guidance. Please note that at the age of 11, proxy access will be paused pending the consent of the child for it to continue. Please email hiowicb-hsi.signuptwyford@nhs.net regarding the process for this.
My child is aged 13-15
At the ages of 13-15, proxy access can still be requested (see above), but the patient may also setup their own NHS App account. To gain access to order prescriptions, they must be assessed to be competent at making healthcare-related decisions by one of our GPs. To request this, please email hiowicb-hsi.signuptwyford@nhs.net.
My child is aged 16+
At the age of 16, any prior proxy access a parent/guardian may have is automatically removed. At the age of 16, patients can access the NHS App services in full and do not require any assessment of competency. If proxy access is still desired for a parent or carer, this must be requested via hiowicb-hsi.signuptwyford@nhs.net.
I care for a dependant adult
If a patient over the age of 16 is unable to use online services, proxy access can be requested via hiowicb-hsi.signuptwyford@nhs.net.
Please note that during the implementation of this change we anticipate we may receive many queries sent to hiowicb-hsi.signuptwyford@nhs.net and we will reply to you as soon as we can.
